The Trabant is alive again :-)

It was frustrating. The new engine won't start. Just loud explosions and smoke. So I searched in the Forums and one answer was to check the iginition cables to the spark plugs. I never changed anything, but well, the car was used the previous owner installed the electronic ignition. So I gave it a try and voila. The car started like new. Engine runs great. Clutch is top.
Now I am driving the little Trabant slowly for the first few hundred kilometers.
I am more than happy.

Trabant Engine - Step 2

Today I installed the Trabant Engine back to where it usually belongs...into the enginebay of my Trabant.
Andreas, a friend who already replaced Trabant Engines many times in the past, helped me. It was fun to do that. It worked fine. Unfortunately the engine won't start. Seems to be the Carburator. After the battery was emptied of a too long try to start the engine we had to stop. Since the Carburator was also old and layed in a box for a few weeks it might be dirty. Will see tomorrow if there is a change after letting him sit for a day.
Enjoy the time lapse video. It is not complete, since the battery died, but it is fun :-)

Trabant Project making progress

It's been a while. Now since I have a new engine I worked on some of the parts from the engine and so on. Removing rust, painting etc.
