In the early 90s I made my first online / Mailbox experience with my PC and a 2400 Baud Modem. Mailboxes in Germany were most of my experience. Making Phonecalls at that time was very expensive and so the online experience was always a short experience.
In 1994 I was finally member of the Compuserve "Imperium" I was one of the first 100.000 Internet users with Compuserve in Germany. Isn't that crazy ? I created my first Homepage at "http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/M_Kahle2/" in 1995/1996
I was using Paint Shop Pro already at that time and other tools to minimize scanned Pictures to allow a quick loading with at that time 9600 Baud and later 14.4k Baud. Scaling down and optimizing was essecntial at that time. I used a Mustek Scanner to scan my pictures. I had that Homepagetil 1999 when I used a different Provide (1und1) with a free purespace account.
From there on I then got my first own domain bigmek.de in 2002. That is my domain since then and I have a few more (https://trabi.bigmek.de , https://cougar.bigmek.de ...)
I was using AOL later for the Internet access and when I finally cancelled my old Compuserve account, the Operator thought I was telling him the wrong User ID Number. He said, that must be a higher Number, I said, no that is a accound from 1994... in 2009 Compuserve was history. AOL is also more or less history. In the 90s they made always Advertisment.... 15 Million users Worldwide, 25 Million, 30 Million. Now Billions use the Intenet. Lots of Scam, misuse etc.
Well, I was no Bezos, Zuckerberg or so and I never made something outstanding online. Even though I had some good ideas..but I was not risking anything. So it is like it is.. I am proud of being a Internet User from a long time already, from the early times. Where I even had the INternet Yellow Pages book at home (yes, there was a yellow pages available for the whole Internet at the mid 90s.
Here are some screenshots of my old Pages:
