While planning our trip to Berlin we decided to make a stop in Zwickau. The VEB Sachsenring Factory was located there and all the Trabants were built there. After the wall came down there is now a Museum with the history of Auto Union (Audi, DKW, Horch, Wanderer, IFA, Sachsenring...)
The trip to Zwickau was relaxed. Sunny weather and not much traffic. The Trabant drove smoothly with a average gas cosunption of about 6.7l/100km. Not tto bad.
We reached Zwickau right after 3 pm. So we entered the Museum and took a look at all the wonderful historical cars and exhibitions. They have two parts - the old part with DKW, Audi, Horch etc. and the newer Part with IFA; Sachsenring, VW...
After the Museum we stayed in a very beautiful Hotel called Schlosshotel Schweinsburg in Neuenstein/Pleiße. A old castle, renovated in 1994 it a beautiful place to stay. Also not very pricey.
We paid less than 70 Euros for 2 persons, one night and breakfast.
The Restaurant is also very good and the staff is nice and friendly.
